Software Capture for Apple Version 3.0.1 Released to US Zone

    Uncategorized

We have released a new Software Capture for Apple version (3.0.1) that focuses on an improved user experience, automatic framerate optimization, automatic firewall traversal capabilities, and video test proctoring capabilities (for those organizations with this SKU enabled). Please note that this release has been pushed out to all instances within the United States zone. It will be pushed out to Canadian and European Union instances next week. To take advantage of these new capabilities, please update the installed application.

    1. Refreshed Desktop Application User Interface
This version includes a refreshed experience with more clear Action Buttons for Start, Stop, Pause and Cancel. We also added a more modern translucent background to partially see what’s behind the desktop recording application and more clear iconography.
    2. Video Test Proctoring Available for Apple
The video test proctoring capabilities introduced for PC platforms is now available on Apple computers. For those organizations with this SKU enabled, this workflow enables users to initiate controlled recordings during active test taking, accept configurable Terms and Conditions, capture appropriate imagery of government-issued photo ID, and record multi-sources during online test activity. We offer options for both live and non-live test proctoring.
    3. Auto-Scaling Frame Rate Level Based on Performance
Based on the available CPU and resources of the computer, the framerate default settings will be automatically established. This can be adjusted and in the event it exceeds the recommended setting, a message will be provided to the user.
    4. Improved Firewall Traversal
Transition of outbound port access to Port 443 to be more compatible with an organization’s existing firewall configuration. With more stringent firewalls, this capability will reduce the likelihood the Platform’s use will require a firewall change.
    5. Default Location for Recorded Media Changed to My Media Top-Level Folder
Changed the default location where captures go to the top-level Media Collection rather than the Default Collection. This change was made so that novice users who record will see their recording available immediately after clicking on My Media, rather than having to go into the Default Collection sub-folder.

This release also resolves about 25+ issues including resolution of an issue that would prevent the Mouse Cursor being recorded as part of the screen capture.

#163099963 – PC Capture – Improved error handling where a selected Profile contains a device that is not available or changed name.

    United States Zone – Semi-Monthly RC20190125 Released

    Uncategorized

We have successfully pushed an update to all physical zones residing in the United States. Please note that this release will be pushed to Canadian and European Union zones next week. This release includes over 75+ new features and improvements.

    1. Media Chooser for Canvas Extension Now Supports Video Quiz Insertion and Multi-Column Gradebook Integration
We have implemented deeper native LMS-specific integration for Video Quizzes that expand upon the more limited LTI-based Gradebook integration (which we still support). The result is that users can create video quizzes, insert them virtually anywhere in the LMS and better track the results with multi-column gradebook integration. We’ve implemented it for all LMS’s, however we are releasing it officially in stages starting with Canvas, then Blackboard and finally D2L Brightspace and Moodle.

    2. Architectural Changes for Improved Bandwidth Tracking and Deeper Analytics
The new Bandwidth tab now derive source data directly from the Platform’s Content Delivery Network (CDN) edge nodes. This enables more accurate, timely and detailed analytics data. Additionally, we added tools to gather better insights into bandwidth usage including:

      – Summary Cards providing breakdowns of overall usage, utilization within groups and split between videos and non-video assets
      – Ability to view bandwidth usage by group and by digital asset object
      – “Leaderboard” for bandwidth usage by Top Media and Top Groups

Please keep in mind that this new sub-system will begin populating with data commencing tonight for all usage henceforth.

    3. Improved Device Scheduling Delegation Capabilities and Opt-Out Options
To better serve organizations doing auto-scheduled recordings, we’ve introduced more structured workflows to delegate a schedule and provide opt-out options to delegated users. Administrators can delegate session opt-out to a given user who can then review and opt-out of sessions within their My Account -> Upcoming Recordings.

    4. Audio-Only Files Can Now Be Edited with the Video Editor
The Video Editor’s editing capabilities have been extended to edit audio-only recordings and uploaded audio files.

    5. Ability to Edit-and-Replace-Existing Right Within the Video Editor
To expedite edit-and-replace video editing workflows, we’ve introduced a new Replace Existing Video option directly integrated into the Save dialog of the Video Editor.

    6. We also implemented about 75 smaller improvements and fixes. Some of the highlights include:

      • Improved the Media Chooser LMS extension to dynamically update for any new recordings made directly from the Create Recording button. This enables click to record and then immediate LMS insertion without requiring a refresh or re-opening the Media Chooser.
      • Improved API integration with Delcom in-room visual integrator integration with Software Capture application including press-button pause/resume capability.
      • Implemented more useful zoom-in and zoom-out capabilities within the Video Editor. This is now easier to use for shorter video files
      • Timeline elements within the Video Editor are now clickable to make adjustments to their options and values.

We also wanted to provide advanced notice of some workflow improvement and new features that will be available in an upcoming release currently slated for late-October / early-November. This update is focused on creating a more intuitive and design-forward experience for users.

If you’d like to learn more about these updates, please contact your Account Manager to schedule a live training session. Improvements include:

    1. Unification of Media Channels Navigation Buttons – The View Channels is now part of a unified Media Library. This promotes a more cohesive overall experience – especially for new users – when viewing and managing media. Currently, there are separate “View Channels” and “Upload & Manage” navigation buttons which historically causes some users confusion on which to use.
    2. Unification of Media Channels into the Media Library – Media Channels interface directly within the Manage Media’s All Channels view. This cohesive experience further simplifies how users navigate within the Platform. We offer users the ability to toggle between the Channel-style and Library-style viewing experience depending on their preference.
    3. Left Bar Sub-Folder Navigation Capabilities – New Left Bar capabilities simplify navigation across folders and sub-folders. This new folder navigation is also integrated with our existing drag-and-drop for convenient content publishing.
    4. Resizable Navigation Bar with Improved LMS Layouts – Along with a more compact and resizable Left Navigation Bar, we also have created a more dynamic Media Channels layout when viewed inside LMS windows.
    5. Quick Access to Video Analytics – Content owners will be able to view summary analytics directly within the Media Details popup, as well as, click to see a more detailed Content Analytics view.
    6. Clearer Create Recording Workflow with Improved Notifications – When launching the Software Capture desktop application using the Create Recording button, the UI is clearer and more informative.
    7. Design-Forward Cues and Effects – We incorporated a host of design-forward effects including innovative hover effects when navigating a specific video, modern status notifications and page transition effects. All of them are subtle but focused on creating a more appealing environment for today’s video consumer.
