    YuJa Enterprise Video Platform Update – September 2024

    We have successfully pushed an update to all Enterprise Video Platform instances residing in the European Union, Australia, the Middle East, Canada, and Asia. The United State geographic zone will be updated later this week. The highlights for this update include an upgraded view of the Enterprise VideoTube, enhanced visuals for the content report, an upgraded Activity panel, a new audio player interface, sub-admin permission management, users with edit access can change media ownership, new import schedule wizard, remotely stop active recording sessions, and more.

     

    1. Upgraded Enterprise VideoTube with Slide-Out Channel Bar and New Branding Options
      The Enterprise VideoTube has been redesigned with a new slide-out Channel Bar that displays available public channels in an easy-to-view list. Administrators can also update the Enterprise VideoTube branding by customizing the background and text colors of both the Channel Bar and the landing page, as well as using a static masthead image. Over the coming releases, we will be incorporating the ability to create custom pages, playlists, and adding new permission management capabilities.

    2. Upgraded Content Report with New Data Visualization Capabilities
      We’ve significantly enhanced our Content Report by streamlining multiple tabs into a unified, engaging interface. Key highlights of this improvement include:

      • Improved Summary Cards with at-a-glance statistics and integrated graphs
      • The Hot Spots panel features a view of the video with highlighted segments indicating the most-watched parts.
      • Improved Playback list featuring drop-down analytics that reveals audience retention and time jumps.

    3. Upgraded Activity Panel of the Admin Panel with Improved User Interface
      We have rebranded the Notifications tab to “Activity,” and added valuable insights, data summarization, and filtering tools.

    4. New Audio Player Interface with On-Screen Visual Waveform
      A new, more modern Audio Player provides listeners with an upgraded experience when listening to audio-only content. The new player design introduces an on-screen visual indicator featuring a colorful waveform that synchronizes with the active audio. This waveform will also dynamically adjust in response to the audio’s volume.

    5. New Sub-Admin Permission Management Console and Framework
      Over the coming releases, the Sub-Admin role configuration will become increasingly flexible. To support this, we have introduced a new Sub-Admin Permission Management Console alongside a Capabilities Framework. This will enable Sub-Admins roles to be more flexibly aligned to Admin Panel Capabilities and, most importantly, Platform-level Capabilities. This more powerful Capabilities framework lays the foundation for unique Sub-Admin job classifications.

    6. Video Editor Now Offers Light Mode and Dark Mode Options
      With recent updates to the Video Editor introducing a dark theme to alleviate eye strain, we are also offering the option to choose a Light Mode for those who prefer a brighter interface.

    7. Increased Import Speed for Zoom Recordings Ingestion
      We have enhanced our import time for Zoom recordings using a newer Zoom architecture that transitions from an hourly “pull” to a synchronized “listener” model where recordings arrive within minutes.

    8. Comprehensive Activity Tracking and Audit Logging for Video Editor Actions
      The Admin Panel’s Activity panel will now track granular actions and will keep track of actions performed within a Video Editor session. This provides admins and our support staff with better tools to support users.

    9. Allow Users With Edit Access to Change Media Ownership
      We’ve introduced a new setting allowing users with edit access to reassign content ownership. Access the settings from the Admin Panel -> Platform -> Platform Settings.

    10. Institution-Wide Security Privacy Configuration of Student Uploads
      To safeguard the content of students, administrators can enable a new security setting that automatically sets all student uploads as private by default. Access the settings from the Admin Panel -> Platform -> Platform Settings.

    11. New Sub-Admin Capability Framework to Publish Content to Featured Videos in the Enterprise VideoTube
      Leveraging the new Sub-Admin Capability Framework, Administrators can allow Sub-Admins more control over their institution’s Enterprise VideoTube by permitting them to publish content directly within the Feature Videos section.

    12. Watch Browser Capture Videos While They Are Being Transcoded and Processed
      We’ve improved our Browser Capture processing pipeline, allowing users to view and select recordings in the Media Chooser even while they are being actively processed.

    13. Option to Enable Metadata Harvesting for Specific Roles
      With the implementation of metadata harvesting, which enables users to utilize APIs for collecting information related to their content’s metadata, we have introduced a new option to restrict API usage according to specified roles: IT Managers, instructors, and students. Access the settings from the Admin Panel -> Platform -> Metadata.

    14. More Granular Branding Options: Customize My Media Sidebar Folder Icon Colors
      We have introduced a new branding setting enabling administrators to customize the color of My Media Sidebar folder icons on the Manage Media page, ensuring the icons are accessible with various background colors. Access the settings from the Admin Panel -> Branding -> Platform Colors -> Sidebar Folder Selection.

    15. New Available Functions for the YuJa Video Player API
      The YuJa Video Player API, which integrates YuJa’s Media Player controls into third-party software, now offers APIs to retrieve both the current playback time and the total video duration.
    16. More Accessible Design for Media Library Folders in List View
      Previously, we updated the look of our folders to offer a more accessible design so that users could easily select folders or their action menus. In this release, we’re including the same design to be featured when viewing folders in a list view.

    17. New Import Schedule Wizard to Show a List of Successful and Unsuccessful Imports
      The Import Schedule modal for devices has been updated to feature a two-step process, allowing users to upload XML or CSV files, followed by a review of successfully and unsuccessfully imported schedules.

    18. Stop Active Recording Sessions by Remotely Managing Recording Tools
      Recording sessions through Software Capture, Browser Capture, and the Hardware Hub can now be stopped remotely through the Video Platform by selecting the Stop button on the recording thumbnail.

    19. Reduced Visual Clutter in the More Action Menu by Organizing Items into Headings
      The More Actions menu categorizes all items under specific headings, helping content creators locate the desired action for their content.

    21. Clear Labels and Improved Visibility for Video Editor Tools
      To help Content Creators easily differentiate between various tools in the Video Editor and enhance their visibility, we have added clearly defined labels to the cut, split, undo, and redo tools.

    22. Enhanced Visual Search Capabilities for Selecting Users to Share Media With
      When selecting a user to share media with, the drop-down list will no longer auto-populate with all users. Instead, it will filter results based on the search query entered.

    23. Compact List View for Publishing Video Quizzes to Courses
      For institutions with a large number of courses, the list of courses available for publishing Video Quizzes could take considerable time to load. We have addressed this by introducing a compact list view, which can be expanded to load additional courses and filtered through the search bar.

    Software Capture for PC and Apple Update – September 2024

    We have successfully pushed an update for Software Capture for PC and Mac to all Enterprise Video Platform instances residing in the European Union, Australia, the Middle East, and Asia. Canada and the United States will be updated later this week.


    For the YuJa Software Capture for PC, this update includes remote monitoring for when devices are signed out of Windows and automatic capture resumption for when devices unexpectedly reboot.

    1. Fleet Management Capabilities – Remote Monitoring of Classroom Devices When Signed Out of Windows
      If a scheduled session starts while a user is not logged into their Windows device, the session preview will now be accessible on the Admin Panel’s Device page.

    2. Automatic Capture Resumption When Devices Unexpectedly Reboot
      If a device running a Software Capture session unexpectedly reboots due to a system crash or power failure, Software Capture will now automatically initiate a new recording upon reboot while preserving the previous recording.

    For the YuJa Software Capture for Apple, this update includes the automatic start of scheduled sessions when Software Capture is closed, selecting course channels and saving locations for profiles, and integrated support for Kuando Buslight.

      Content Creators can choose Course Channels and save locations when creating a profile, ensuring their recordings are automatically uploaded to the desired areas on the Video Platform.

      • First Contentful Paint: The time it takes to display the first piece of content.
      • Largest Contentful Paint: The time it takes to display the largest content.

      When reviewing reports, documents on the web page will automatically be detected. These documents can then be opened directly within EqualGround to see highlighted WCAG 2.2 accessibility issues and the steps required to resolve them.

      AutoPilot highlights problematic snippets of web page code and offers solutions to resolve them. These solutions can be easily copied and pasted into the web page’s code to ensure the issues are resolved.

    6. View Visual Web Page Reports With Color-Blind Filters
      When reviewing reports in the visual web view, admins can enhance their experience by selecting between various color-blind filters. These filters include options for three common types of color blindness: Protanopia, Deuteranopia, and Tritanopia.

    7. Scan Web Pages Individually to Update Their Accessibility Scores
      Organizations can choose to enhance website accessibility one page at a time by scanning individual pages. This approach allows for targeted resolution of accessibility issues specific to each page, ensuring that all issues are addressed before moving on to the next page.

    8. Add Multiple URLs to Exclude With the Wildcard Asterisk Character
      Administrators can specify a URL prefix when creating an exclusion URL list by appending an asterisk (*) at the end. This will ensure that all URLs starting with the specified prefix are automatically blocked from being scanned.

    This update includes web and HTML view for WYSIWYG content, preview adjustments for color contrast issues, disable scans for unpublished content in Canvas,  a new accessibility check for outdated file formats, customized branding for the Panorama LTI navbar, support for detecting accessibility issues in the WYSIWYG editor for Canvas Quizzes,  support for Moodle page descriptions, a manual override for the reading order check, improved processing speeds when generating reports, and more.

    1. Accessibility Reports Offer Web and HTML View for WYSIWYG Content
      Content creators can review their WYSIWYG Accessibility Reports in a visual web format or HTML text. The web format lets creators see their content exactly as it appears to others, while the HTML view provides insight into the page’s structure to review issues.

    2. Preview Adjustments When Resolving Color Contrast Issues
      When addressing insufficient contrast between text and background colors, Panorama provides a preview and calculates the contrast ratio to ensure your newly selected colors meet accessibility standards.

    3. Disable Accessibility Scans for Unpublished Content in Canvas
      Canvas admins and instructors can disable accessibility scans for unpublished documents and pages, ensuring that course and institution accessibility scores reflect only what is available to view.

      The Accessibility Report will verify that DOCX, PPTX, and XLSX documents are updated to the latest file versions and provide steps for updating them if needed.

      We have expanded Panorama’s capabilities to include an Accessibility Report for descriptions created on Moodle Pages.

    8. Manually Verify the Reading Order of Documents
      In cases where Panorama identifies the reading order as an issue, content creators may prefer to retain their original order. To accommodate this, we’ve introduced a “Verify reading order” checkbox, which will prevent Panorama from flagging the reading order issue upon rescanning the document.

    9. View an Organized List of Accessibility Issues and Non-Accessibility Issues
      With Panorama’s vast range of checks, it’s important for content creators to recognize that some issues detected by Panorama may not directly impact a document’s accessibility but could affect its usability, such as a document containing broken links. To help distinguish between these issues, the Issue settings now include two separate tabs: Accessibility Issues and Non-Accessibility Issues.

    10. Improved Iconography and UI When Reviewing Issues in the Accessibility Report
      We’ve enhanced the iconography and user interface of the Review Issues panel in the Accessibility Report to more clearly indicate the severity levels of the issues being reviewed.

    Software Capture for PC and Apple Update – July 2024

    We have successfully pushed an update for Software Capture for PC and Mac to all instances residing in the US, Canada, Australia, Singapore, the Middle East, and the European Union.

    For the YuJa Software Capture for PC, this update includes the option to create a scheduled window for uploading recordings, on-screen highlights to show the recordings state, the option for Software Capture to automatically open after finishing a recording, and optimized live stream screen recordings to use less CPU resources.

    1. Ability to Create a Scheduled Window for Uploading to the Video Platform During Off-Peak Hours
      Institutions that would like their recordings uploaded to the Video Platform only during specific time frames can now create permitted upload windows. For institutions with network-constrained infrastructure, this enables uploads to happen during off-peak hours.

    2. On-Screen Highlight to Show the Recording State
      To give on-screen indications of the recording status of Software Capture, content creators can enable an option to view a highlighted border around their screen capture source (which is not visible in the resultant recording). The highlighted border will indicate whether their recording has yet to start, is in progress, or is paused.

    3. Software Capture Will Automatically Reopen After Recordings are Uploaded or Discarded
      Content creators who want to make multiple recordings consecutively or discard and restart their current recording will no longer need to manually relaunch and log in to the Software Capture application. We have added a new feature that, when enabled, will automatically reopen the application.

    4. Optimized Live Stream Screen Recordings to Utilize Less CPU Resources
      By optimizing our live stream encoding, content creators will experience up to 30% reduced CPU usage when capturing their screen sources.

    For the YuJa Software Capture for Apple, this update includes options for adjustable file size of recordings, customizing the frame rate of video sources, adjusting the orientation of the video feed, and new hotkeys to dynamically control sources.

      Content creators can enhance their recordings by selecting from six video-quality presets, each offering different levels of compression. The highest quality preset ensures no compression, preserving the video in its original detail but resulting in a larger file size. The lowest-quality preset applies the most compression, making files smaller and easier to transfer.

    2. Customize the Frame Rate of Video Sources
      Content Creators can adjust the frame rate of their video source based on what their video camera supports.

This update includes a streamlined wizard to create proctored assessments, LMS hierarchy support, email confirmations for registered live assessments, custom suffix settings, guided steps for test-takers, video tutorials for adding applications to a blocked list, improved integration with Aleks, and a new add-on: Live Check-In.

     

    1. Streamlined Wizard to Quickly Create Proctored Assessments
      We now provide a step-by-step walkthrough for setting up Verity when creating a proctored assessment on an LMS or with a third-party proctoring tool. Assessment creators will be guided through each step of the process, from platform and configuration selection to live session setup, ensuring assessments are ready for test-takers.

    2. LMS Hierarchy Support for Sub-Accounts, Nodes, and Sub-Orgs: Enable Verity for Specific LMS Hierarchies or Courses
      We’ve implemented a scope setting that allows administrators to enable Verity-only specific LMS sub-accounts / sub-org / BB Node.

    3. Email Confirmations for Registered Live Proctoring Session
      Test-takers who register for a live proctoring session will receive a confirmation email detailing their registration.

    4. Customize the Suffix to Distinguish Proctored Assessments
      Verity has always provided a suffix at the end of a proctored assessment name to distinguish it from other assessments. Administrators can now customize or remove their suffixes to suit their institution’s preference.

    5. Canvas Now Supports Auto-Detection and Student Walkthrough of Student Setup
      Test-takers attempting to access a proctored assessment without the Verity Browser Extension will automatically receive step-by-step guidance on how to download the extension and access their assessment. We expect to roll out this same capability for D2L and Moodle in the next release cycle. To enable this capability, please contact your Client Success Manager.

    6. On-Demand Video Tutorials to Help Add Blocked Applications for Windows and Mac
      In an effort to provide on-demand support, we’ve included tutorial videos for both Windows and Mac devices on how to manually add programs to Verity’s blocked application list. This will ensure that test-takers cannot access specific programs during their proctored assessments.

    7. Improved Third-Party Integration With Aleks
      When creating a third-party assessment with Aleks, Verity will now automatically enter the password for test-takers to access the assessment.

    Verity Add-On: Live Check-In

    1. New Proctoring Add-On: “Live Check-In” to Remotely Monitor Assessments Upon Misconduct
      Complementing our existing Live Proctoring options, Live Check-In (similar to Live Pop-In) leverages Verity’s live monitoring infrastructure to flag and, in real time, notify human proctors of potential misconduct. Proctors can then remotely enter a test-taker’s environment to address the issue. This new offering provides institutions with choices when selecting their preferred proctoring options, as we aim to act as a one-stop shop for all proctoring needs.

    EqualGround Website Accessibility Scanning Platform Update – July 2024

    The release provides a comprehensive Dashboard to view the overall accessibility of an institution, SEO auditing, an Accessibility Report for web pages, credit summary tracking, a new accessibility check for color contrast issues, and the option to subscribe to email notifications.

     

    1. Comprehensive Dashboard Summary to View the Accessibility of an Institution
      EqualGround will collect the accessibility scores across an institution to provide a comprehensive summary of the institution’s accessibility. In-depth reporting can be viewed for each category by clicking View Full Report.

    2. Detailed Reports for SEO Auditing
      We’ve built our own engine to crawl websites and analyze SEO-related issues such as:

      • Missing canonical tags to prevent duplicate content.
      • Links and documents are not crawlable.
      • Missing language tags for pages.
      • Links do not contain descriptive text.
      • Missing metadata from documents.
      • Invalid robots.txt file

    3. Accessibility Report – Compare WCAG Criteria by their Score or the Number of Issues
      The Accessibility Report offers a comparative analysis of a selected web page’s WCAG criteria— A, AA, AAA, and ARIA. A graph visualizes these analytics, displaying them based on their accessibility score or the number of issues each criterion has. The report also displays the most common issues on the web page, organized by the WCAG success criteria.

    4. Credit Summary to Track the Use of Scanned Pages and Documents
      EqualGround offers institutions credits for scanning web pages and documents. The Credits Usage Report tracks monthly credit usage and provides a usage history, allowing for trends to be analyzed.

    5. In-Depth Accessibility Scanning for Documents
      Documents will be scanned to ensure they comply with WCAG accessibility guidelines. Administrators can then access details for their documents to view a list of identified accessibility issues.

    6. New Accessibility Check for Color Contrast Issues
      To ensure sufficient color contrast between the text and the background, EqualGround will calculate the contrast ratio to identify occurrences of the issue. Website owners can then update their pages based on the report provided.
